2008 FIRES/RESCUES

*Rubbish Fire*-1/8/2008, 19:47 Hours, 350 York Road (Rear of Warminster Shopping Center), Local Box 90-44, Rubbish, Warminster Township. Originally dispatched as a dumpster fire in the rear reported to be fire in and around the dumpster. Chief 90 (Shapiro) arrived with a small pile of trash on fire. Engine 90 (Lt. Young) arrived and went in service with the booster line to extinguish the fire. Units cleared the scene at 1956 hours.

Engine 90s Crew: Driver-Hunter, Officer-Lt. Young, Tip-R. Croak, M. Hauser, Bodziak

*Fatal Accident w/ Wires Down*-1/12/2008, 23:50 Hours, 675 E. Street Road (In Front Of Jefferson On The Creek Apartments), Local Box 91-51, Wires, Warminster Township. Dispatched to wires down after an accident. Engine 90 (Lt. Mahon) & Deputy Chief 90 (Heath) arrived with a one vehicle accident with ejection & wires on fire and also on the highway. Engine 90s crew searched the area for a possible other ejection and secured the hazards on the black vehicle. The male patient who was ejected had head trauma and agonal respirations. One female patient also had other injuries. Both patients were transported in two ambulances to Abington Hospital. Engine 91, Rescue 90 (Lt. Young), & Rescue 2 were also on scene assisting with lighting for 74PD to conduct their accident investigation. Engine 90 cleared the scene at 0012 hours to respond to the stuck elevator call. Rescue 2 cleared the scene at 0201 hours. Rescue 90, Engine 91, & Deputy Chief 90 cleared the scene at 0428 hours.

*Power Outage Causes Stuck Elevator*-1/13/2008, 00:12 Hours, 424 E. Street Road (Centennial Station # 10000), Local Box 91-95, Stuck Elevator, Warminster Township. While on the accident scene, the wires & transformer exploded which caused a power outage in the area. Engine 90 (Lt. Mahon) arrived with 1 female stuck in the elevator on the 1st floor. Crew in service with elevator key to open the door. Extrication complete at 0029 hours. Ladder 90 (Towers), Rescue 2, Chief 90 (Shapiro), & Battalion Chief 91 (Faust) were also on scene. All units cleared at 0038 hours.

*Chimney Fire In Hartsville*-1/19/2008, 14:01 Hours, 1453 Southern Court, Tactical Box 93-34, Chimney, Warminster Township. Deputy Chief 93 (Mullelly) & Chief 93 (Velten) arrived with a light smoke condition inside the dwelling and an active fire in the fireplace. Ladder 29 (Lt. Campbell) arrived 1st and went in service to the interior with salvage buckets, a thermal imaging camera, & a dry powder fire extinguisher. Also a ground ladder was thrown to side D to check the roof area around the chimney. Squirt 93 & Engine 92 (Lambert) arrived next and assisted with interior operations, a pw can, & runners. Crews cleared the fireplace of ash and shot the fire extinguisher up to clear the chimney. No further extension was found. All units cleared around 1445 hours.

*Busy Day For Warminster Volunteers*-The department responded to 7 fire calls throughout the day including 5 tactical box assignments (4 in Warminster Township). Of the calls a dryer fire, chimney fire, and stove fire were handled.

*Extinguished Trash Can Fire In Warrington*-1/20/2008, 12:00 Hours, 1109 Main Street (Spa One Nail Salon), Box 29-24, Building, Warrington Township. Deputy Chief 29 (Bean) arrived with nothing showing. Further investigation found a small trash can fire extinguished on the 1st floor. Engine 29 (Lt. Campbell), Montco. Ladder 15 (Deputy 15 Greenberg), Engine 92 (Sweeney), & Rescue 90 (Lt. Young) went in service with salvage operations on the 1st floor. Crews remained on scene for about one hour cleaning up water from the sprinklers. Battalion Chief 92 (Stebner), Chief 29 (Hinkle), Chief 93 (Velten), & Chief 15 (Flanagan) were also on scene. All units cleared around 1252 hours. Warrington's fire marshals office was on scene investigating the cause.

*Dumpster Fire*-1/20/2008, 13:51 Hours, 970 W. Street Road (Rear Of AC Moore), Local Box 92-40, Dumpster, Warminster Township. Originally dispatched in the rear of 978 W. Street Road (Blockbuster Video), Deputy Chief 90 (Heath) arrived on the scene in the rear of 970 W. Street (AC Moore), with a dumpster fire with no exposures. Engine 92 (Capt. O'Brien) arrived and went in service with the booster line to extinguish. Engine 92 cleared the scene within 30 minutes.

*Busy Weekend Ends With 11 Calls & An Almost First Due Building Fire*-The Warminster Volunteers responded to 11 fire calls over the weekend with a close call coming to close out. At 2358 hours, Sunday night, Montco. was transmitted for a building fire at the intersection of Newtown Road & E. County Line Road. Moments later, Bucks Radio dispatched Box 91-13, for 295 E. County Line Road @ Perky's Inc. Tires. Upper Moreland 35 PD arrived on the scene with smoke showing and possible entrapment. Seconds later, Battalion Chief 91 (Croak) arrived with heavy smoke showing. The FAST team and covers were dispatched within 2 minutes. After further investigation, the Chiefs found a small heater fire that was extinguished prior to fire department arrival. A man was working on the heater which started a small fire. The assignment was held to Engine 91.

*Trash Fire*-1/21/2008, 22:30 Hours, 536 Sunnemeade Avenue, Local Box 90-08, Rubbish, Warminster Township. Originally dispatched to Olive Street & Sunnemeade Avenue for a pile of trash on fire. Responding in 2 minutes, Engine 90 (Lambert) arrived with a small pile of trash burning in front of 536 Sunnemeade Avenue. Crew went in service with the booster line to extinguish the fire. Engine 90 & Battalion Chief 91 (Croak) cleared the scene within 15 minutes.

*Small First Due Fire In The Walls*-1/30/2008, 08:58 Hours, 120 E. Street Road (Bucks Landing Apartments B2-6), Box 90-50, Apartment, Warminster Township. Originally dispatched as an alarm system for Bldg. B-2, Bucks Radio upgraded the assignment to wires inside the apartment due to smoke in the building. Engine 91 (Feldman) arrived with nothing showing. Captain 91 (K. Lamb) reported fire in the walls with the insulation & a smoke condition inside apartment B2-6. Battalion Chief 91 (Croak) advised the county to upgrade the assignment to an apartment fire. Engine 90 (FM274-3 J. Hauser) arrived and (Tip-Lambert & Back Up-M. Hauser) stretch an 1 3/4" hand line to the fire apartment. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and used hooks to pull cabinets, walls, & the ceiling to check for further extension. None found. Ladder 2 set up positive pressure ventilation. The assignment was scaled back to 2 & 1 per Battalion Chief 91. Situation turned over to maintenance. All units returned to service within one hour. FM274-2 & FM274-3 remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

*Ivyland Chimney Fire*-2/1/2008, 22:07 Hours, 15 Gough Avenue, Tactical Box 62-01, Chimney, Ivyland Borough. Chief 66 (Dawicki) & Chief 90 (Shapiro) arrived on the scene with an active fire in the chimney. Engine 62 arrived and went in service to the interior with salvage buckets. Rescue 90 (Lt. Young) arrived and threw a 35' ground ladder to side B to the roof to check the chimney & also placed an electric ppv fan in service to the front door. The fire was extinguished and the ash was removed from the fire box by Engine 62. Tower 66, Engine 90, & Montco. Ladder 95 were recalled. Deputy Chief 90 (Heath) was also on scene. All units returned to service around 2237 hours.

*Heavy Fire Showing From 95 House*-2/7/2008, 01:21 Hours, 23 N. Penn Street, Box 37-13, Dwelling, Hatboro Borough. 37PD and Chief 95 (Zollers) arrived on the scene with heavy fire showing, side B, 1st floor, with a report of entrapment. Deputy Chief 95 (Gordon) & Assistant Chief 95 (McElroy) assumed 95 Command. Engine 95 (Capt. Anders) arrived and forced entry & went in service with a hand line to the front door. Ladder 95 (Lt. Lemek) arrived and assisted with ventilation of the 1st floor windows & an additional 1 3/4" hand line was pulled by (Lt. S. Marshall) to protect the exposure dwelling. Engine 15 & Ladder 15 (Deputy 15 Greenberg) arrived and assisted with ground ladders on all four sides of the dwelling. Engine 15 also laid a supply line. 95 Command at this point, evacuated the building at 0127 hours. Engine 95-1 (Lt. Gowen) arrived supplied Engine 95 and assisted with manpower. Engine 90 (Lt. Mahon) arrived supplied the hydrant at N. Penn Street & E. Moreland Avenue and (Tip-P. Martin, R. Croak, & M. Hauser) pulled a 2 1/2" hand line off Engine 95 to side B & another 1 3/4" hand line. Engine 90's & Ladder 95's crews proceeded to side C to use two 1 3/4" hand lines to extinguish the fire on side C. Ladder 10 (Lt. Winterberg) & Engine 10-2 were sent to cover Station 95 but were immediately called into the scene to assist with manpower. Special Service 93 was the FAST team. At this time, 95 Command reported no one inside the dwelling with multiple hand lines in service from the exterior with heavy fire throughout. Engine 90's crew went to side D to go in service with a 2 1/2" & an 1 3/4" hand line to the attic area. Ladder 95 placed their ladder pipe in service. Finally, Assistant Chief 10 (Focht) & (Tip-Lambert, Back Up-R. Croak & M. Hauser) stretched the 1 3/4" hand line back inside the dwelling to extinguish the fire & Engine 90's crew (Lt. Mahon, Campbell, P. Martin, & Schenk) assisted with hooks for overhaul. Tower 8, Tower 500, continue with overhaul. The fire was placed under control at 0343 hours. Engine 95-2 (Pearsall) & Squad 15 were also on scene. Engine 91 & Engine 62 were added for additional manpower at 0344 hours. Chief 10 (Perlmutter) & Battalion Chief 91 (P. Croak) were given side A operations, Deputy Chief 10 (Jones, Jr.) & Chief 15 (Flanagan) were given side C operations. Engine 90 & Engine 91 cleared the scene at 0549 hours. Engine 11 & Ladder 100 covered Station 95.

Engine 90 (Capt. Cooter) arrived and (Tip-Lambert) pulled the 1 3/4" bumper line to extinguish the fire. Engine 90 cleared the scene at 0626 hours.
